Hello, darlings!  One of the best things about owning a boutique is getting acquainted with fabulous fashion talent, as I believe in displaying the best that there is.  High fashion hat designer and my good friend, Rachel Rae, definitely fall under that category, as her collection, It’s a Rae Rae, captures the glamour that is synonymous with Off Broadway Boutique.

I am especially pleased to see Rachel, who had worked in our shop about 27 years ago, enjoy her success with her one-of-a-kind chapeaus.  They have even caught the eye of VOGUE editor-at-large, André Leon Talley, who applauds their first-rate versatility in being “worn with casual elegance or with the best bespoke suits.”  This is why it is such a joy to see Rachel come full circle in expressing her eye for style through this wonderful collection.

Rachel Rae’s stylish hats are definitely a must-have for any woman that loves to dress with the utmost glamour in mind.  For more information about her collection, please visit her website, It’s a Rae Rae

Read About Me in New York Social Diary

Hello, everyone!  In the midst of the whirlwind promotion for his new book, Advanced Style, my good friend, Ari Seth Cohen, recently stopped by our shop, Off Broadway Boutique, along with New York Social Diarys Blair Sobol.  After being introduced as one of his muses, I invited Ms. Sobol into our world of enchanting glamour.  The result was a wonderful article that captured my motto for living – dressing for the theatre of your life!

My Night Out at the Advanced Style Book Release Party

Hello, darlings! I had the most amazing time at Ari Seth Cohen’s launch party for his book, Advanced Style, this past Tuesday. Held on the rooftop of the Sky Room at the New Museum in the Bowery neighborhood, we were treated to a spectacular view. What’s more; the guests dressed smashingly as elegance reigned supreme at the party!

Although we know many of the fabulous ladies that are featured in the book as our Off Broadway Boutique customers, I had the pleasure of meeting the other women that epitomized Advanced Style. As bright as they were interesting, they expressed themselves through their sensational style and sparkling conversation. Ari also dressed to the nines, as he greeted me in a dapper hot pink pant suit that I adored. He took this opportunity to debut a preview of his documentary, also titled Advanced Style and featuring yours truly.

I also had the pleasure of being interviewed by both The Wall Street Journal and the New York Observer while sharing my style secrets with them. This beautiful and perfect book launch party was a smashing success as copies of Advanced Style eventually sold out. Ari was so thrilled by the overwhelming kudos that he called me earlier today to let me know that the Barnes and Noble shop in the Village was featuring copies of his book in their front window – with my picture featured in their open book display!

Hello, everyone!  This past Friday, I had the pleasure of doing an online interview with Radio BBC.  Although I was a bit nervous from never having been interviewed by someone in England before, I decided to jump in with eyes wide open as I hopped into the limousine that arrived to pick me up around 10:20PM.

Once I arrived at their Midtown studio on the West Side, I was welcomed by a lovely young lady named Amma who informed me that my interviewers and listeners were five hours ahead of me in London.  After escorting me to the padded studio room and informing me that the interview would be pre-taped for an upcoming morning show, I stilled my rapidly-beating heart and delved right into the questions that were prepared for me.

For the next five minutes, I was asked about my personal style and favorite accessories and colors to wear, as well as whether I always wear a hat wherever I go.  I also let them know that I don’t dress up every single day of the week, as Sunday is my day to relax at home with no makeup and a large sized t-shirt on.  In addition, I also told everyone about the Advanced Style book that will be released this coming Tuesday, as we styled most of the fashionable women in the book.

Not only did my online interview with the BBC go so quickly that it felt like a dream, but it was a wonderful learning experience that I will cherish.  I look forward to introducing myself to a worldwide audience that is also the largest radio listenership, as the joy of dressing fabulously for the theatre of your life is universal.

Class Trip: The Off Broadway Boutique Experience

Hello, everyone!  This past Friday was the most wonderful day, as we had the pleasure of treating Lynn Dell’s grandson, Boaz’s, class to a grand Off Broadway Boutique tour.  Visiting from the Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan, these bright second graders arrived at our shop to learn all about textiles.  This was also a great opportunity to show the kids the different fabrics and to discover what you create out of them.

We invited the class into the design studio, where they saw how we cut fabric and how we custom-make our garments.   In addition, we showed them how we merchandise the store and explained the concept of price structure and markup to them.  We also explained to them how we managed a successful business like Off Broadway Boutique for 41 years.  The most exciting part was answering all the kids’ questions, as they had plenty of good ones about how clothing fit and how we custom made them for our clients.

Although we have had plenty of experience in lecturing college students and providing tours to visitors, we were a bit intimidated in facing an entire second-grade class.  Luckily, we had nothing to fear, as we were blessed to host some of the brightest children that we have ever met.  As a parting gift, Lynn gave every kid a silk dupioni swatch (a fabric that we use to make our exclusive jackets with) and a kosher sugar cookie.  Everyone – including Lynn’s grandson, Boaz – was impressed with the Off Broadway Boutique experience, which brought us much joy!

Hello, everyone!  One of the things that I appreciate is the beautiful shapes and sizes that I see everywhere, as it is a major inspiration behind the fashionable clothes that we sell as a part of our collection.  It is precisely why I jumped at the invitation to shoot an episode of the hot reality show, Curvy Girls, at our store, Off Broadway Boutique, last night, as I wanted to be a part of something that celebrates the magnificence of plus size beauty.

Although Curvy Girls generally focuses on the lives of 4 plus size models in New York, producers Sarah Pelkey and Sandy Jean Philippe, specifically chose me to be a judge at the Evolution of Curves casting call that was staged at our shop.  Absolutely flattered to be on the panel with the lovely Sandy, as well as her colleague, Vanessa, I was determined to help them find someone that fit the description of fun, fashionable, and fabulous for their upcoming Florida fashion show.

By the time we were ready to tape around 7 in the evening, there were 7-8 models waiting outside the boutique for their shot for a spot in the show.  Everything went smoothly as these contestants put their best face forward while competing in a dance segment.  Although it took us about two hours in total for Sandy, Vanessa, and I to make our decision and to tape the entire casting call, it was a very interesting experience that I would love to do again.

Produced by Stage 3 Productions as the brainchild of producers, Sarah Pelkey and Sandy Jean Philippe, Curvy Girls airs on the nuvoTV network.  We will definitely keep you posted on when our episode will air once we find out more information.

My Fabulous Discovery - The Weekender Duffle Bag

Hello, darlings!  As much as I adore attending trade shows and finding plenty of one of a kind fashion and jewelry pieces, it can be quite a hassle to carry the weight around.  As useful as a backpack or tote can be, it also adds strain to my back and shoulders.  This is why I am so grateful to have discovered the PurseN weekender duffle bag in time for this week’s trade shows.

A handy travel duffle bag whose wheels and handle make it easy to drag around, it was such a lifesaver for me during my trade show travels.  Not only did I no longer have to carry any weight on my back and shoulders, this bag gave me plenty of room to carry all of the clothing, accessories, and jewelry that I picked up from every show.  I am so thrilled with this great find that I am definitely going to sell these at my shop, Off Broadway Boutique, so that both shoppers and travelers can carry their things and move around.

In turn, I will definitely keep everyone posted on when the fabulous PurseN weekender duffle bag will arrive in my boutique.

Hello, darlings!  A few weeks ago, CNN.com was lovely enough to cover me in their wonderful article, “Aging stylishly, online and in the streets” as a woman of a certain age with fabulous style.  In addition to featuring my shop, Off Broadway Boutique, my lovely salesperson, Brianna, chimed in about her admiration of my bold and beautiful sense of style.

Even though I pride myself on dressing up for the theatre of my life every single day, it is still wonderful to get rave reviews about my fashion sense.  Watch the video to see me and other women shatter the myth that dressing your age means fading into the woodwork!

Hello, everyone!  It’s been a busy week for yours truly, as I’ve been traveling to trade shows around town in pursuit of the perfect pieces for Off Broadway Boutique.  Among the shows that I attended were the ENK show at Pier 94, the Atelier show at the Doubletree Hotel, and the Accessories, Moda, and Fame shows at the Jacob Javits Center.  Each and every show offers me the promise of finding that special piece that will become a beloved must-have in my shop.

A big winner at Pier 94’s trade shows was the statement jewelry that caught my eye and captured my heart.  Since I am always on the lookout for stunning and unique statement jewelry pieces, I was thrilled to find a new collection of gold tone played jewelry.  Each piece was simple in design and beautiful in quality, while the collars and breastplates were the centerpieces of the collection.  In addition, the Atelier show at the Doubletree Hotel hosted a great trade show from a firm named Dressed to Kill, which offered a few wonderful and special pieces that I will definitely sell in my store.  A bonus was the free bags of jellybeans that they were offering around the trade shows.

When I arrived at the Jacob Javits Center trade shows, I immediately fell for a glamorous glass bead jewelry collection that included stunning neckpieces.  So smitten was I  with the gorgeous green and beautiful blue colors that I had earrings custom made from beads and stones that I handpicked, even though I normally shy away from buying matching jewelry.  Since exquisite earrings were already on my mind, I made it a point to search for clip back earrings that were as bold as they were luxurious.  After all, I pride myself in offering an array of one of a kind clip back earrings that fashionable women over 50 can embrace at Off Broadway Boutique.  The pieces that I found at the Jacob Javits trade shows were beautiful ones that will certainly win the hearts of my customers.

I was also inspired to buy sexy shoes for my customers to wear along with the evening clothes that they try on in the dressing rooms of my shop.  Although we haven’t done this in years, I thought it was a great idea to start it back up again so that women can truly see how sexy their legs look in a gown and gorgeous shoes.  I chose these shoes in complementary colors – gold, black, and silver – so that they can get the full picture of how glamorous they can look in exquisite style.  If this turns out to be a success, I may decide to offer these shoes for purchase in the future.

Although the May trade shows are usually quiet, I still step out to see all the fabulous fashion and glamorous jewelry that there is to offer.  Since I never know what treasures I’ll find, I attend every trade show with the anticipation that that I will find that one of a kind piece that will be right at home at my shop.  Visit Off Broadway Boutiqueto see our diverse collection of clothes, accessories, and jewelry for women over 50 and you will see just why I am so thrilled to attend trade shows all the time!

Striking a Pose on Advanced Style

Hello, darlings!  My good friend, Ari Seth Cohen, featured me on his fabulous fashion blog, Advanced Style, on Monday:

Lynn Dell: Black and Red

Lynn Dell dresses up for the theater of her life everyday. She’s believes that style should be about personal expression and at almost 80 years old she’s not afraid to dress how she pleases.

A fashion maven in his own right, Ari is currently on a whirlwind book tour around the world to promote his upcoming book, also named Advanced Style.  Just 30 years old, he is primed to make his mark once the book is released on May 22nd.

We at Off Broadway Boutique will definitely be carrying the book upon its release, since yours truly is featured as one of Ari’s style muses.

Hello, darlings!  Last night, I was treated to a charming little movie that enchanted me from beginning to end – The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.  A beautifully shot movie that starred the wonderful Dame Judi Dench, Dame Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, and Dev Patel, it was a visually exotic feast for my eyes.
Chronicling eight English people who seek retirement of leisure at a less-than-luxurious hotel, they eventually learn how to enjoy life and its changes.  This movie reminded me so much of my travels to Jaipur, where I stayed at the gorgeous Lake Hotel.  In deciding to soak up my experience in this beautiful city, my memories were just as visually exotic as this movie.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel offered a simple, yet powerful, moral – you can either close yourself off to life’s experiences or soak them up with a sponge.  It is a wonderful little movie that is both heartwarming and unforgettable.

Hello, everyone!  Music is one of the things that I enjoy most, which is why it was such a pleasure to attend Marilyn Maye’s performance with my good friend, Claire Ratusch, two Thursdays ago.  Headlining at Michael Feinstein’s room at The Regency, we were mesmerized by her wonderful voice and undeniable presence.  In addition, we were treated to the musical stylings of renowned pianist, Billly Stritch, who previously played for Liza Minnelli and served as Marilyn’s musical director.  To say that it was “the happiest sound in town” is truly an understatement.

A lovely woman with a sparkling personality, she charmed the entire audience, including the legendary song and dance man, Tommy Tune.  Needless to say, Claire and I were over the moon when I was invited to meet both Marilyn and Billy backstage.  I had such a wonderful time that I invited her to my shop, Off Broadway Boutique, and look forward to showing her a time that she will enjoy!

Hello, darlings! Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the sensational Off-Broadway show, Mama, I Want to Sing: The Next Generation, at the Dempsey Theatre in Harlem. Created by Vy Higgensen it was a joyful celebration of faith, family, and love set to the tune of wonderful gospel music. I had a ball as I got swept up in the heartwarming story and took lovely pictures – which I will be sharing with you soon. Needless to say, it is no surprise that this is the longest-running Off Broadway show around.

In addition to being a theatre dynamo, Vy – along with her sister, Doris Troy – are longtime clients of Off Broadway Boutique that I’ve also had the pleasure of spending time with outside the shop. Last Saturday was no exception, as we decided to lunch at the fabulous hot spot, Red Rooster Harlem, before the show. A wonderful place to see and be seen with an outdoor café that is perfect for summer dining, we met a lovely family from Ohio who were celebrating their mother’s birthday. With delicious food and sparkling conversation, we certainly had an enjoyable time in meeting new and exciting people!

Just minutes away from one another, both the Dempsey Theatre’s showing of Mama, I Want to Sing: The Next Generation and the Red Rooster Harlem are must-do places that I highly recommend.
